Private Lessons

For private lessons at BFA, students can choose between two different tracks:

  • Accelerated Studies – for students interested in pursuing a career in music or in taking advanced auditions for local youth orchestras, such as BYSO, MYWE, NEC YPO, or All Districts and All State auditions

  • General Studies – for students of all levels who would like to progress at their own pace, while still receiving the finest flute instruction

Students enrolled in private lessons at BFA have the opportunity to attend private recitals and masterclasses with world class guest artists, perform onstage in practice recitals and formal concerts, be inspired by flutists of all levels (from novice to professional), take part in the mentoring program, and attend special classes and workshops designed with the flutist in mind. BFA provides flutists access to a vibrant flute community, an environment which both inspires and motivates our students.

BFA requires an interview and trial lesson to determine the best possible student-teacher match. Acceptance to the private lessons program is not based on musical experience, but rather is determined by level of interest in learning the flute and a positive working relationship between student and teacher. Flutists of all ages and levels are welcomed!

Adult Ensembles: Bernoulli Winds & Maliotis Chamber Players

The BFA Adult Ensembles offer ensemble training for adult flutists interested in staying involved with or rediscovering music in their lives!

We focus on ensemble training, interpretation, flute skills, body awareness, and the simple joy of making music in a supportive environment!  Each term consists of 12 classes and presents opportunities to work with many of our inspiring flute faculty members! BFA Adult Ensemble members may also attend our Sunday morning masterclasses with world-renowned guest artists free of charge.

The BFA asks all new members to fill out a Self-Assessment Questionnaire about their experience, skill level, and goals for the program.  This will help you learn more about the program, and will help us better assign parts within a multi-level ensemble, creating a comfortable, fulfilling experience for everybody!
